Google releases affordable Pixel 7a smartphone with new AI capabilities
At its annual I/O conference on Wednesday, Google unveiled several new items including the Pixel 7a that has some of the same features of the Pixel 7 while introducing new capabilities.
Meant to be the budget version of the Pixel 7 that Google released in 2022, the Pixel 7a has some reduced capabilities that make it a more affordable, yet still capable phone. The Pixel 7a features the Tensor G2 chip featuring two 2.85 GHz Cortex-X1 cores, two 2.35 GHz Cortex-A78 cores, four 4×1.80 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, and 8GB of RAM.
The camera system of the Pixel 7a has been revamped to offer impressive features to a wider audience. The phone’s primary camera has been upgraded with a sensor that is 72% larger than that of the Pixel 6a, resulting in a 44% increase in light sensitivity.
Furthermore, the device comes equipped with a new 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens that allows users to capture a wider perspective in photos. Additionally, the Night Sight feature on the Pixel 7a is twice as fast compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 6a.
The screen is an OLED 6.1-inch screen, at a resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels, delivering a 429 ppi density. It features the 90Hz Smooth Display for improved scrolling and buttery transitions.
The Pixel 7a has introduced Long Exposure, a feature that can enhance texture and vitality in images of moving objects like waterfalls. Moreover, Pixel 7a features Tensor G2, allowing for Super Res Zoom up to 8x, enabling users to capture sharp, high-quality images, even when shooting from a distance.
It also boasts an appearance similar to that of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, complete with the trademark Pixel camera bar and sleek, contoured surfaces. The device’s midframe architecture ensures that the Pixel 7a is the sturdiest addition to the A-series lineup.
Additionally, the aluminum casing is made entirely from 100% recycled materials. Charging is, as before, provided by a USB-C port.
