Nothing Phone (2) to Be Released This Year in the US - CNET
Less than a month after Nothing brought the Phone (1) to the US comes the news that the company is set to launch the Phone (2) in the US later this year. The release was originally reported by Inverse but was confirmed by a Nothing spokesperson to CNET via email.
In the interview with Inverse, Nothing CEO and co-founder Carl Pei didn’t divulge many details about the phone.
“We’re developing a smartphone that’s more premium than the Nothing Phone (1) and software will be a big focus area for us,” Pei said, according to Inverse. Pei said he describes Phone (2) as “premium” as opposed to a flagship because he views the Phone (1) as a flagship and Phone (2) as a step up.
Pei also told Inverse that Nothing’s revenue and sales growth allowed the company to push its products more in the US. Phone (1) was released in the US as part of the Android 13 testing program.
“When you make a smartphone for the U.S. you need to work with the carriers on certification and adapting some of their features into your OS,” Pei said, according to Inverse. “We didn’t have the resources for that before and now we do.”
Nothing Phone (1) was released outside the US in July 2022, billed as a reliable smartphone that won’t break the bank. While the phone offers good performance and speed, the design is what sets Phone (1) apart, according to CNET’s Andrew Lanxon.
