Math, Science, History, and Search Lessons Based on Baseball

Baseball is my favorite professional sport to watch. The Red Sox have been my favorite team for as long as I can remember which is why I still occasionally look through the baseball cards I collected as a kid. And going to last year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony for David Ortiz was one of the highlights of my summer. All that to say, I was excited to see that this month’s issue of the Library of Congress Magazine features collections of baseball cards.

The Library of Congress website hosts a collection of thousands of digital images of old baseball cards dating back to the end of the 19th Century. You’ll find thousands of more pictures, posters, and articles about baseball through a quick search on the LOC’s website. If you’re a baseball fan, you’ll also want to explore the library’s Baseball Americana exhibit. All of these resources could be a great source of inspiration for little research projects into nuggets of American history and culture.
